****************
The Rink opened at its original location at 8920 So. Ashland Ave., on Thanksgiving Day, 1975. The Rink spearheaded many major achievements. Most notably, The Rink was a sponsor of the first Afro-American roller-skating play, “Look Mama, No Hands,”, held at what was then Medinah Temple. Although The Rink featured two skating floors, it was too small to be competitive. It also had no off street parking. The Rink operated at the Ashland Avenue location until 1985, and afterwards was relocated to its' current facility at 1122 East 87th. St. This location is twice as large, is fully air-conditioned, has two hardwood maple skating floors, and parking for over 500 cars. The roller skating scenes of the movie “Soul Food” was filmed here. In addition, it was the location of choice for casting calls for the movie Roll Bounce, a McDonalds Commercial, and several music videos.
